The reason, not the excuse.

I just attended the Hispana Leadership Summit  in Miami and wow! What an amazing group of women. I learned about communication among the generations, using your leadership style to empower your team, and using my Hispanic “chispa” to make a difference, not only within my company, but with my team, my clients, and other women leaders in my community and abroad. I left feeling inspired, empowered, and ready to conquer the world. And attending this conference didn’t come at a price. I missed both of my boys’ first soccer game of the season, my husband had to coordinate homework, drop-off and pick-up, plus soccer practice for three days.

But you know what? It was done, and it’s not the end of the world.

In fact, I have come back a better mother, wife, and entrepreneur. I took some time to surround myself with great energy, uplifting messages, and great connections to take my business to the next level.

I also exchanged ideas, tips, and pointers with other mom entrepreneurs. We were reminded that the time we give to ourselves makes being with our families even more special. In a great discussion with a fellow mom entrepreneur, Gladys Diaz of Heart's Desire International, we came to this conclusion:

Our families need to be the reason, not the excuse.

So next time you are given the opportunity to attend a great conference, check out a mastermind, or network with potential clients, make your family the reason to attend. Stop making excuses and do it!
