I Listen to Strangers
Do you listen to strangers? One of the most bizarre habits that humans have is how clearly we hear what strangers are saying, even if someone close to us has been telling us the same thing forever. Sometimes, we’ll believe something a stranger says before we believe ourselves.
I’m so blown away by this concept, and it’s very real each time I speak at a conference. It’s what I do: at a recent conference, I spent 45 minutes talking to strangers. And you know what? So many of them came to tell me I had changed their lives. While I’m honored and flattered – this is one of the most rewarding feelings in the world – I realized that I’m not the only one with this power.
Think about how you feel when someone says something nice to you, or simply acknowledges your hard work. All it takes is a few words, right? That’s how easy it is to give someone the same encouragement. All we need to do is boost each other’s confidence and give each other a pat on the back every once in a while.
Please, speak up. Give compliments. If you’re thinking it, say it! Go out of your way to tell someone you admire him or her. You could be changing someone’s life.
