Smoke and Mirrors: Illusions Gone Rogue
As mothers, wives and entrepreneurs, it’s easy to feel the pressure of perfection. We strive so hard to achieve balance, to have everyone look at us and say, “Wow, look at her, she does it all with such ease.” This peer pressure can turn us desperate, leading us to create smoke and mirrors to give off this impression of perfection. But turn the show off, and find that the world loves realness!
Face it: it’s a lot more relatable and entertaining for people to see who you really are, hardships and all. Don’t use smoke and mirrors to try to be someone you’re not. Let your fellow ladies in to see that you’re only human, and balance really is bullshit.
But there’s a fine line between being real and letting things get to you, so act accordingly. Keep things in perspective, and remember that when we plan, God laughs. Creating an impression of grace when your mind is in 50 different places is a habit worth getting into, but don’t use smoke and mirrors to fake it.
You, like every other woman, make mistakes, have bad days and face obstacles daily. It’s not that your life is perfect, it’s that when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade and build a super successful stand around it.
Lead by example: ditch the smoke and mirrors and be real with your audience, your family and your peers. Feels good, huh?
